Metamerism / Métamérie

Spring 2013
Briques Magazine no.1
in collaboration with Arthur Billaut
W_B_Rem Koolhaas_Casa da musica_Porto

Metamers in colorimetry or biology imply a certain visual or functional equivalence between two or more elements. In this pictorial, architects Eliza Culea and Arthur Billaut apply this term within the realm of architecture, seeking inspiration in the endless sample libraries do architecture offices.

Designed to form a collection, these photos rewrite the ambiance of projects worldwide, some of them familiar to the international stage, others more intimate to their personal experience. From the colored polycarbonated sheets of the LABAN center in London, to the reddish concrete of Atelier Bardill in Switzerland, these spaces fascinate users and architects alike through the materiality that composes them.

The work of Eliza and Arthur wishes to represent these projects differently than already done so in the media, by detaching them from their already too well know photographic angles, and reducing them to their fascinating physical and tactile essence. In one glance, we are thus able to discover the entire visual coherence of an entire project.

Briques Magazine is a new free Paris based architectural journal curated by architect Min Hong and distributed to all the architecture offices and universities in France. It is designed to act as a platform of debate for architects of all ages, profiles and nationalities. Metamers spread features in the very first issue of the magazine, out in September 2013.
